Though the demand for quick action that compels Hawaii lawmakers and their colleagues across the nation is understandable, creating a patchwork of uncoordinated verification systems undermines the efficacy of existing and potential federal approaches.

HB 643 authorizes the Contractors License Board to suspend, revoke, or refuse to renew a contractor’s license for employing a worker on a public work project who is ineligible under federal law to work in the United States.
