In the States

States and cities are increasingly enacting laws establishing employment eligibility verification requirements.  In one state, the governor has taken action by executive order.  Though the demand for quick action that compels these local lawmakers is understandable, creating a patchwork of uncoordinated state and local laws will undermine the effectiveness of any employment verification system.
